Interior contemporary remodelling project
Located in core midtown, this detached 2 storey brick home has seen its share of renovations in the past. With a 15 year old rear addition and 90s kitchen, it was time to upgrade again with a major facelift.
To achieve the look and feel of the modern design, we addressed a number of design features in this home including flooring, kitchen layout, space functionality and interior design. To create a uniform contemporary look, intricate details were addressed. This included removing old crown moulding, adjusting bulkheads, redistribution of lighting and new trim work. The new Italian Scavolini kitchen displays a modern finish with all reflective glass doors and two-tone black and white design. Ultra tall upper cabinets and a built in pantry introduced space efficiency. Inspired by a chef’s kitchen, a built-in flush Miele fridge is inset to the wall and cooking equipment includes gas and induction cooktops and a full size oven and steam oven.
A main feature of the house was its original fireplace. Initially covered with a brick clad mantel and had a gas insert, it was brought back to life through removal of the mantel. It was rebuilt to create a new, fully functional wood-burning fireplace with a raw concrete mantel enhancing flow of the new interiors. Another eye-catching built-in feature includes a custom inset bar with cedar shelves and flush glass doors.
The home owner, a hip interior decorator, partnered in the overall thematic design. She sourced furniture, created focal points by use of accent walls and selected 8” wide European hand scraped engineered planks to create warmth and character for this home.
