Upside Development affectionately refers to this home, nestled within the historic Mill Pond village of Richmond Hill, as a “modern farmhouse”. It features a modern, clean architectural design through interior and exterior features: open concept layout, window elevations, fifty feet of glass dressed with French doors, white brick and painted wood siding, to name a few.
The home takes much of its special and unique interior design inspiration from special pieces, including antique family heirlooms, preserving the charming country atmosphere, but adding modern twists throughout. Lighting was also a noteworthy element of the design, with every piece expressly chosen to emphasize draw the eye to other design choices and to create the desired ambiance of the room. The kitchen’s coffered ceiling blends the inside of the house with the outside by adding dimension and depth to the space, while adding some further rustic appeal. The open kitchen features Spanish tiles and high-quality, custom-made cabinets – all details Upside focused on to create a comfortable yet sophisticated atmosphere. The backyard design was centered by a custom concrete pool with modern elements, and features custom limestone slabs with sunken ipe deck and various floral and vegetable gardens purposed for summer harvest. The master features a view of the backyard, and efficient planning allowed the main main space of the house to be dedicated to daily living, eliminating unused “guest only” sections within the home. This creates a feeling of a grand open space upon entry.
Upside Development’s design and construction team ensured that this home fit into the heritage neighbourhood seamlessly, offering a modern twist on classic charm.
